The German version of Cream of Wheat, our family loves to eat Griessbrei not just for dessert but also as a sweet dinner on a cold evening. A great comfort food with Catholic roots (according to Catholics ), often served as a Main Dish on Fridays. 

Ingredients:

1 quart milk

¾ c semolina powder ( ½ c  for a thinner consistency  or use 1 cup for a thicker consistency)

1-2 tbsp. sugar

Optional Toppings:

Fresh or canned fruits

Cinnamon

butter

Directions:

- Combine milk, sugar and semolina in a medium pot using a whisk

- Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat while stirring constantly.

- Once the mixture starts to boil remove from heat and stir for about 1-2 minutes.

- Let cool, but serve warm with or without toppings.
